Do we look at it? What does it make us want to do? Do we feel close to these children? Both of them? Or do we give one of them priority? What can we tell them?

The Gathering of the Educational Network of the Company of Mary Our Lady, which took place in Lourdes from 8th to 10th May 2014, reached its ambitious target: “All involved in the meeting”.

 “All involved”, yes, we were:

14 schools of the Company, easily recognisable with their colourful  scarves to identify the various towns. More than 900 members of the  educational communities, children, young people and adults, parents,  pupils, teachers, teaching assistants, former pupils, everybody, we were  all involved in these 3 days of meetings!

The songs of the Sentinelles group, accompanied by its musicians, who, with the pupils of Beaumont de Lomagne, welcomed us so warmly upon our arrival, and proclaimed:

“All together,
In the name of the spirit that unites us, ...
Come from all horizons, …
A shared heart, ….”

And the song continued: “
“We progress together … We build our house …”.

It was indeed the aim of this meeting: “build the house”, the house of Our Lady, the house of the Company, but also the house of the whole World as several countries were represented among us, including Columbia, Paraguay, Cameroon, the DRC, …

ODNs therefore felt at home in this meeting, and had its role to play for introducing universal solidarity. It was present, with some wonderful posters to identify it and highlight the importance of “becoming sowers together of seeds of solidarity”.

And, in order to demonstrate this desire to become more committed to universal solidarity, ODNs and its volunteers sold little pots with seeds of wheat or flowers in them, in lovely little bags embroidered by the women of the Santa Maria de Fe workshop in Paraguay.

These seeds in each of the bags are rich in promises and symbols:

 - they are real seeds of plants which will grow, establishing a link between  the earth and us
 and also, and in particular
 - they symbolise the desire that germinates in our hearts and encourages  us to commit to ensuring the growth of solidarity between the near and  far.

We would like to thank Jardin Fleuri and Botanic for their donations of seeds.

Let these seeds give a one hundred-fold yield and even more!

So that everybody, on returning from Lourdes and seeing these plants grow in their garden or on their balcony, as a sign of the riches of the earth and mankind, may continue the quest for Solidarity, for a more humane and fairer world.
