Finance a generator unit to promote the development of Tuadibishe School

Tuadibishe, which in Swahili means “Let's educate”, is the name of a school which is situated East of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the province of North Kivu, in Mulo, near Bukavu.

Tuadibishe, which in Swahili means “Let's educate”, is the name of a school.

  • Where is it?

TUADIBISHE School is situated in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the province of North Kivu, in Mulo, near Bukavu.

It is a green mountainous region with nearly constant rainfall.  The population lives fundamentally from farming (corn, sweet potato) but it is poor because the main cities are far away and so it is difficult for them to sell their produce.

Yet however, the people are very welcoming! They have had the good fortune not to be too badly affected by the war, and welcome refugees with open arms.

  • What is it like?

The main aim of the school was that families send their daughters to school because at that time girls used to stay at home to help their mothers.  At the beginning it was a school only for girls; since 1976 it is a mixed school.

The school consists of primary, secondary and further education diplomas (Teaching Diploma, Specialist diploma in general teaching and Specialist diploma in Biology-Chemistry) with a total of 724 students; and a social-education centre for young people over 14 who give literacy classes and vocational training workshops.

At the present time the staff in Tuadibishe have designed a psychological, educational and coexistence support programme for displaced students, young victims traumatised by the armed conflict going on in the Kivu region which is very rich in minerals sought after by international exploitation companies.  A blood-soaked drama for more than 20 years about which not enough is being said!

TUADIBISHE 1 Project

Finance a generator unit to promote the development of the school

Apart from the formal educational curriculum, the school offers vocational training in its socio-educational centre for young people older than 14. Three workshops are offered: brick-laying, carpentry and dressmaking.

The material used in these workshops is obsolete.  Consequently, the aim of the global TUADIBISHE project is to modernise the school's equipment.

We need to acquire new material that will only work if the school has  regular access to electricity.  Something which is non-existent at the present time in Mulo as it is an underdeveloped region and electric power cuts are frequent and inhibit the correct functioning of the workshops and the school in general.

Therefore, the funding of a generator unit is essential for the development of the school and its workshops.  It would be the first contribution to the school’s development project and for this reason we have called:

the TUADIBISHE 1 project.

But this wonderful adventure does not end here.  We will continue to work the rest of the year to develop the project, providing funds for the new materials to be used in the workshops.

Thanks for your help and interest in this wonderful adventure which has just begun!
