Piece by Jean-Yves FERNAND, a young Haitian Jesuit. For him, Haiti is “like that beautiful black woman, adorned with jewels but sad and sorrowful…”

A country where women are the most vulnerable and the most disregarded.

We are going back to a place that we had to leave over 200 years ago

Haiti was the first country in America, under the missionary momentum of French nuns, that the Company came to in 1733.

We stayed, working in education among the poor, until the revolution in 1793 when the majority of the nuns died when their convent was burned.

The new community is made up of five nuns: one French, three African and one Mexican
