Do we look at it? What does it make us want to do? Do we feel close to these children? Both of them? Or do we give one of them priority? What can we tell them?

Art as a way to transform the children and young people in the district of San Miguel Cerrito

In Paraguay, north of the capital Asuncion, in a 10 km2 flood-prone area at the mouth of the Mburicaó, families live in extreme poverty.

This experience is not new: the “Art and Humanism” workshops allow the children and young people to become more involved in their future as people, in a more human society.

The monitors help to mobilise people in the neighbourhood to find another place to live, at the same time as 2 projects are set up: the creation of a new road to connect with Asuncion and the installation of a waste-water treatment plant.

The activities encourage plastic expression, writing and group-dynamic games in which 70 children and 30 young people participate with their families, in the company of a preventive psychologist.

The development of artistic skills encourages progression towards self-management of ones own personal evolution, strengthens bonds with parents and peers and improves habits for a healthier life.

Cost of the project: €10,000
