Bolivia, Women in search of liberty:” Warmi Ñaupajman” - News 1

... using the popular education methodology with weekly workshops for 10 to 25 women.

60 people have shown an interest.

Society has imposed the idea on women that they should be women at home, domestic, submissive,... and yet they are important people in family and neighbourhood life. They have to value their life, love themselves and then love their family.

 

 

Doctor Jenny Ruiz was invited to the meetings on health.

To strengthen their knowledge, she spoke about complete health, which has 3 dimensions: physical health, mental health and social health.

She gave them preventive resources within the framework of State and neighbourhood policies.

*Concern about the house without going out or without being able to have fun.

*Avoiding problems in the family

*Being friendly

*Thinking positively

*Going out and sharing with cheerful people.

*Eating well with no chemical products.

*Loving care for her family.

*Not drinking alcoholic or fizzy drinks.

*Not gossiping

*Aware of family planning

*Taking care of the environment

    

  Workshops were suggested for preventing cancer and also on Women's Rights, conflict management and literacy workshops.


Midway results

The “Warmi Ñaupaqman” or “Women seeking freedom” project is one of the first experiences for these women. Some of them have never taken part in a workshop.

At the start, they were afraid, they felt ashamed or even angry and now they are grateful to the Vincente Cañas Centre and ODNs for this chance. They are more sure of themselves and they wish to learn more, mainly on topics linked to women's lives, family, health, women's rights and conflict management.

They realise that other women are also going through the problems and conflicts that they are experiencing, that they could be more supportive among themselves to protect themselves in areas of family life and public life.

They could become leaders in the neighbourhood, reading and writing the minutes, understanding what is said at a social and political level so that nobody can trick them thinking that they do not understand a document.

These fearful, helpless women gain confidence and participate more and more. They leave the house with more self-assurance, try to get training to find a job with activities such as weaving, baking, computers, etc.


Conclusions

These women have gained a new education that they will make use of for the rest of their lives. The relationships between them are precious and they use them to commit with great responsibility.

They are expecting the topics that were announced and some, such as health, should be reinforced with practice and prevention. They attend medical surgeries more willingly.

Reading and basic knowledge should also be reinforced.

Despite the reminders, only 60% of the women came to all the workshops!


Suggestions

Due to their interest and their desire to take responsibility as a woman, and because women educate the next generations, we would like to ask all women in the Centre's zone of influence to attend to improve their living conditions, and conditions for their family and society in general.

And these women think that the workshops on offer should be open to men because if they take part, they will pick up information, knowledge and experiences to change how they see women and respect them, improve their life as a couple, for the family, etc.

Continuing women's training is therefore very important.

 

WE HOPE THAT WE CONTINUE TO WORK TOGETHER ON THIS GREAT PROJECT!
